This Week’s MVP:

Brandon Watson

Conventional wisdom says this week’s top dog should be NBA Finals MVP Tony Parker or U.S. Open winner Angel Cabrera. But the Nosebleed Section has rarely been conventional about anything and there’s no need in starting now. So, instead of national headline makers, NS looks to central Ohio where one Brandon Watson plays a mean centerfield for Washington Nationals affiliate, the Columbus Clippers. A career .284 hitter, Watson has been on Major League radars before. In fact, the 25-year-old Los Angeles native actually has 28 big league at-bats. He just hasn’t gotten that official chance just yet. Well, that may all be about to change, for on Sunday, Watson got a single in the sixth inning of a 9-8 loss to Ottawa. No biggie, right? Not exactly. The single actually marked Watson’s 43rd straight game with a hit, breaking a 95-year-old record for the International League. Amazingly, the longest current streak in the Majors also belongs to a Buckeye State resident, Cleveland Indian Casey Blake, who’s on a 26-game run. NS will keep an eye on both streaks, wondering what in the world is in the Ohio water the whole time.
