Feeling Rather Chipper Lately

Though NS still thinks the New York Mets are strong enough to win the National League East, ending Atlanta’s stronghold on the division, we’re not so sure the Braves are going to be watching the postseason from home any more—especially with the way Chipper Jones has been swinging the bat lately. Think you had a good weekend? The Atlanta third baseman not only eclipsed the Atlanta career hit mark (1902 hits) and tied a 79-year-old Major League record (14 straight games with an extra-base hit), he likely solidified his second player of the week honor of the season after hitting .566 with four homers and 11 RBI over his last seven games. "I'm just going through a stretch where I'm not missing them and doing a lot of damage with them,” Jones told reporters after the team’s fifth straight victory on Sunday vs. San Diego. The Mets might have something to worry about if the Braves’ shaky bullpen were half as confident.
